JOTS Luxury Travel Newsletter: April 2012

Welcome to our first JOTS – Luxury Travel newsletter!

A personal note from Ales

My son and I just returned from a wonderful 3 day skiing trip to Whistler, Canada. It is something we do every year in spring and it’s great to have a few days together enjoying the snow. This is one of the perks of living in Vancouver, it takes us less than 3 hours to get there, but we have met people coming from around the world to experience the amazing skiing here. When we arrived a few days ago the conditions were perfect as Whistler had been receiving another 6 feet of snow during the week on top of the already 28 feet it had so far this season.

Whistler is all about skiing, snow boarding and other winter sports but it’s also the atmosphere which makes it such a great getaway. During the days the views from the different slopes are spectacular and in the evenings the village is a culinary delight as it offers everything from fine Japanese Restaurants to some great Steakhouses. Even Isaac, my 10 year old son enjoyed a hearty steak dinner one night and a very fancy Mongolian stir fry another.

Most of all it’s the memories we’ve made together that makes this journey so special. This time we’ve had some great moments of victory where Isaac went down the Olympic run for the first time without falling, doing his turns and feeling secure in his skiing. We went down that run twice! I am so proud of him as he took the challenge and I know he was so glad he did and enjoyed himself tremendously.

We enjoyed this time so much that we’ll be going back to Whistler in May for some adventurous zip-lining.

Watch this space for some exciting stories of our adventures in the future.

Four Seasons Resort Whistler: Winter Wonderland in the Canadian Mountains.

Are you looking for that perfect place for your winter vacation or somewhere quiet where you can relax in pristine nature and enjoy endless hikes in some of the world’s most beautiful wilderness? I have the place for you: Whistler, Canada.

It is continuously voted one of the best ski resorts in the world and I couldn’t agree more. Having skied in some wonderful ski resorts all around Europe including Switzerland, France and Austria, Whistler is still one of my all time favorites and that is why I return every year for a few days of amazing downhill skiing. Of course it helps that I live just 2 hours away in the greater Vancouver area but there are so many other qualities which make this ski resort so attractive.

First and foremost there is an amazing variety of ski slopes on the two mountains Whistler Village is nestled between, Blackcomb Mountain which was the site of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and Whistler Mountain. Both are easy accessible by various ski lifts and from the many ski-in and ski-out resorts.

One of my favorite resorts is the Four Season’s Resort Whistler. It has the old charm feel of a typical Canadian mountain lodge yet no effort was spared to pamper each guest. Each of the 273 luxury lodge guest rooms, suites and townhouses are generously sized and capture the spirit of a luxurious mountain residence, with cozy wood interiors and gas burning fireplaces.

This resort delivers a carefree skiing experience. All you need to do is get there and everything else is taken care of for you by the wonderful staff. A ski concierge will have your skis ready to go in the morning. With the ski lifts in walking distance you can enjoy a full day of exciting skiing on one of the awe inspiring slopes and ski right back into the resort when you are done. You will be in the heated pool relaxing your muscles and enjoying a nice hot coco in no time.

If you need a little more than just a hot tub, there is also an amazing Spa available for all guests. Surrounded by stunning snow-capped Whistler Blackcomb mountains, glistening glaciers and alpine meadows, the Spa at Four Seasons Resort Whistler is your ultimate destination for relaxation and peace of mind. After a long day of skiing, snowboarding, shopping or hiking, one of the unique spa treatments will melt away the tension in your muscles and rejuvenate your spirit.

Because of Whistler’s close proximity to the beautiful city of Vancouver, I highly recommend you pay a visit to this magnificent place where you will enjoy great sights ranging to some breathtaking views of the city from Grousse Mountain to a stroll back in time through Stanley Park where some of the oldest trees are over 600 years old.
