The god-king Suryavarman II ordered its construction in the 12th century and dedicated the temple to Vishnu, the Hindu deity he identified himself with.

The 5 enormous towers have the same symbolic function as other temple mountains of Angkor: they represent Mount Meru, the mythical dwelling place of Hindu gods. In the outer galleries are some of the finest and best-preserved bas-reliefs of the Khmer Art. You will be ending the day with a view at the Phnom Bakheng, the best spot over the Angkor Wat and the outlying complex before returning to hotel.

You’ll also see local houses and get to peek inside a kitchen (where you can imagine what it’s like to cook an entire family meal on a charcoal pot).

You’ll arrive at a lovely cooking venue (complete with charming herb garden) close to sunset. Your guide will show you some local herbs and you’ll get to collect a few to use in this evening’s dishes. This will be your authentic experience of a Cambodian Cooking Class.
